Bringing Pets Into Thailand

To bring pets into Thailand, it is important to know the rules and regulations to guarantee the health and safety of animals entering Thailand. This article will provide a general summary of the expenses, quarantine rules, prohibited breeds, paperwork, and other crucial information to facilitate a simple and straightforward process for bringing a pet in Thailand.

Pet import permits must be obtained prior to departure by sending an email to with the required documentation within no more than 60 days, but no later than 7 days prior to the departure date if the traveler intends to bring a pet into Thailand or wants to import a pet by air cargo. 

The paperwork needed to bring a pet into Thailand is as follows: 

1.1 - Ror.1/1 form, which can be downloaded here

1.2 - Copy of the passport of the passenger (or copy of the passport picking up the pet if said pet is imported to Thailand by air cargo)  

1.3 - Photo of the pet

1.4 - Flight itinerary  

1.5 - Vaccination record (must be in English)  

1.6 - Microchip implant certificate

1.7 - The animal must be vaccinated for the following diseases at least 21 days prior to departure:

a. Dog: Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo and Leptospirosis  

b. Cat: Rabies and Feline Panleukopenia

c. Rabbit: Rabies     

1.8 – The following dog breeds are prohibited for import in Thailand:

a. Pitbull

b. American Staffordshire terrier 

Upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport, you must contact the Animal Quarantine Station (AQS) for veterinary inspection:

- A Notice of Import Approval and Import License will be issued.

- Pet entry fees (in cash): 500 THB per animal. 

It is possible that additional expenses might be charged at the AQS. Typically, these expenses can include: Veterinary bills, microchipping costs, transportation expenses, import permit fees, and any required quarantine fees.    


1. To import the pet into Thailand, the pet must be at least 4 months old.

2. Pets are unlikely to be quarantined, as long as they don’t show any kind of illness. Quarantine officers has the discretionary authority to quarantine any pets/animals entering Thailand.
